The need for a Documented Systematic Approach to HSE Management has been a key legal requirement for all businesses in the UK and Europe for many years.  The expected simple approach is described in UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines popularly known as ‘HS(G)65’.

Post Piper Alpha it became a requirement for offshore facilities too. The E&P Forum (now the Oil and Gas Producer Association (OGP)) provided their “Guidelines to HSE Management Systems” in 1995. Companies will typically have a Corporate HSE Management System and then appropriate Operating Unit, Departmental and Site HSE Management Systems.
